Justin and Dakota win the Australian Pairs Title!

Dakota North took the double by following up his Australian U-16 Championship win with victory in the Australian Best Pairs Championship. Teamed with fellow Victorian Justin Sedgmen, who took third place in the previous night's Australian Title, North forfeited his 350cc races to concentrate on bagging the Pairs win. For 14 yr-old Sedgmen it was a hat trick of Pairs wins, having teamed up with older brother Ryan to win the 2005 and 2006 Australian Pairs Championships. The Vic. pair started as

favourites to take the title with NSW pair Sam Masters and Taylor Poole likely to be their biggest threat. And so it was, with these two pairs the only to engage seriously in team riding. Their clash turned into the most controversial race of the night. In fact, it took five attempts before this event was completed. First time away, partners Sedgmen and North came down amid first bend bunching. At the second attempt, Sedgmen's footrest caught in Masters' chain and both fell. Third time out, Poole and North found themselves in the first turn fence. Rerun number four produced a cracking race until the third lap when North and Poole came to grief. There were heated moments as Poole was very unlucky to be excluded. With just three riders lining up for the fifth rerun, much of the sting had departed and Sedgmen took the chequered flag ahead of Masters and North. Thrills and spills were the order of the night, and again the meeting rated as top shelf entertainment. Other highlight's were Nick Morris's runaway first race win while looking back to check on second placed Qld team mate Clinton Dennis; Dennis trying to split the Masters/Poole pairing; 11 yr-old Arthur Sissis (SA) splitting Masters/Poole; Alex Davies (NSW) coming down just in front of the chequered flag while in second place; and Masters' exclusion with a broken chain after Cameron Heeps (WA) had fallen and was excluded. Masters/Poole could well rate themselves the unluckiest combination of the night with their on track misfortunes, however they still amassed enough points to take out the runners-up trophies. Also spurned by Lady Luck were Dennis/Morris who encountered several mechanical problems but were able to collect fourth place. They had tied on points for third with NSW pair Mason Campton/ Alex Davies and a run-off between one from each pair took place. Dennis led Davies for over three laps until Davies found a way underneath Dennis with half a lap to go. Multiple World Champion Ivan Mauger presented the trophies.

Points: Justin Sedgmen/Dakota North (Vic) 25; Sam Masters/Taylor Poole (NSW) 20; Mason Campton/ Alex Davies (NSW) 19; Nick Morris/Clinton Dennis (Qld) 19; Robert Brandford/Arthur Sissis (SA) 17; Darcy Ward/Jake Moore (Qld) 17; Cameron Heeps/Robert Medson (W&S A) 8

Justin the new Aussie number 3!
Dakota North Wins Australian Under 16 Championship
Gillman Media posted Saturday January 20, 2007.

Leading Queensland Speedway journalist Gavin Elmes advises us that Victoria's Dakota North won an action-packed Australian Under 16 Championship at the Gold Coast last night.

World Champion Jason Crump, who presented the trophies, voted the meeting better than most Grand Prix events.

North, out of gate 1, led Darcy Ward (Qld) into the first turn of the final, with Justin Sedgmen (Vic) sweeping high and bumping the fence but keeping in front of Sam Masters (NSW). Ward and Sedgmen threw everything at North in their endeavours to reel him in. It was frantic racing of the highest quality with little separating all four. North crossed just ahead of Ward, with Sedgmen third and Masters fourth.

One of North's toughest heat rides was against pint-sized South Aussie Arthur Sissis. After a poor start, Sissis swept around Robert Branford (SA) and Beau Evans (Vic), then hassled North on the outside line for the four laps, taking the lead several times. North snatched the win right on the line.

Heat points: Dakota North (Vic) 13, Justin Sedgmen (Vic) 13, Darcy Ward (Qld) 12, Sam Masters (NSW) 11, Taylor Poole (NSW) 10, Robert Medson (SA) 9, Clinton Dennis (Qld) 9, Arthur Sissis (SA) 9, Mason Campton (NSW) 9, Alex Davies (NSW) 7, Beau Evans (Vic) 5, Jake Moore (Qld) 4, Robert Branford (SA) 3, Brenton Barnfield (Vic) 3, Nick Morris (Qld) 2, Cameron Heeps (WA) 2.

Final: 1. Dakota North, 2. Darcy Ward, 3. Justin Sedgmen, 4.Sam Masters.

Last saturday Ryan raced in the Jack Young cup trophy meetin at Gillman. He rode realy well againist a tough field of internationals if he didn't touch the tapes in one race ryan would of easily made the semi finals but Ryan just had a bit of bad luck! Meeting press release!
Czech Republic Under 21 Champion Filip Sitera made it three wins from three meetings at Gillman Speedway on Saturday night (2 December), when he won the annual Jack Young Cup meeting.

And like the previous two meetings, he saved his best for the race that mattered - the winner-takes-all final.

The Cup was staged over 20 heats with the top three point scorers earning direct entry to the final, while the next five highest point scorers contested a semi-final from which the first and second placed riders qualified for the final.

Surprisingly Sitera had to do it the hard way and qualify via the semi-final, because at the end of the 20 heats the top three scorers were Cory Gathercole (15), Tom Hedley (14) and Matthew Wethers (13).

Missing out on direct qualification for the final, but getting a second chance in the semi-final, were Robert Ksiezak (11), Ben Wilson (10), Sitera (9), Aaron Summers (9) and Arlo Bugeja (8).

Sitera was pumped up to win this meeting, which was against the toughest opposition he'd encountered thus far, but his night did not start well when his chain simply fell off shortly after the start of his first ride. When the honours are up for grabs, however, Sitera always seems to come up with the goods and Saturday night was no different.

He initially trailed Wilson and Ksiezak in the semi-final but then powered around both on the second lap to take the win with Ksiezak also joining him in the final.

In the final, Gathercole made the best start but Sitera was under him through turn two and led for the rest of the race for a narrow but comfortable win. Gathercole finished second with Wethers third, Hedley fourth and Ksiezak fifth.

Ryan recently went to Gillman to compete in Ivan Mauger's Golden Helmet Meeting Ryan rode very well considering he was up againest internationals from europe and Australia and he done well enough to make the 6 rider 6 lap final! Justin also competed in the juniors winning easily.
Here is a press realease of the meeting!

Czech Republic Under 21 Champion Filip Sitera won his third consecutive Ivan Mauger Golden Helmet Series round at Gillman Speedway in Adelaide last night, but Mildura's Tom Hedley was a good thing beaten.

In a meeting marred by crashes and breakdowns, Hedley and Sitera were clearly the best two riders on the night, and Hedley won all of his heats, including two against Sitera; then won his semi-final and led the six rider-six lap final for 5 laps only to be passed by Sitera on the last lap.

Third place in the final went to Robert Ksiezak, ahead of Aaron Summers,   reigning Aussie Under 16 champion Ryan Sedgmen and Adam Vandirek.

Arlo Bugeja passed Ksiezak on the last lap for second place behind Sitera in their semi-final only to then crash heavily into the fence about 25 metres before the finish line, bringing a premature end to what had been a good night for the youngster with 8 points and an engine failure from his four heats.

Matthew Wethers, Ben Wilson and Andrew Aldridge saw little action, all being eliminated very early in the night.

Wethers and Wilson were out for the night after a bad crash in heat two, while Aldridge was forced out after a blown motor in his second ride.

Wethers was taken to hospital were he was kept in overnight for observation and x-rays on his ankle/shin area, and his shoulder/collarbone area, both of which, thankfully, only turned out to be badly bruised and not broken.

Hopefully Wethers (if fit), Wilson and Aldridge will have a better night when they return to Gillman for the next meeting this Friday night (Nov 24).

20/11/06 Justin is VIC CHAMP
Justin recently made the long trip to Moe past melbourne to win the Victorian Junior Title. Justin was a cut above the rest only dropping one point during the heats to Dakota North and then getting sweet revenge to Dakota in the Final by blowing him away. The end results were Justin in first, 2nd went to Robert Medson, 3rd was Beau Evans and 4th went to Dakota who had a engine failure on the third lap while running second behind Justin.

9/10/06
The two boys will be split apart this weekend due to a clash of dates with Mildura and Moe so Justin is off to the Victorian Junior Championhips this weekend hopefully he can follow Ryan's footsteps from last year and win!

Ryan and Justin recently raced over in adelaide with some pleasing results for Justin and a bad day at the office for Ryan!
Gillman Speedway Press Realese!! www.gillmanspeedway.com!

Adelaide's Gillman Speedway opened its summer season on
Saturday night, and like the annual Classic meeting a fortnight earlier, despite bitterly cold weather, and this time a top class sprintcar meeting down the road at Speedway City, another bumper crowd turned up which must be promising for the season ahead.
The opening meeting featured a mixed bag of Solos, Sidecars, Quads, Quarter Midgets and Juniors, but with none of the international riders back in action yet, Solo numbers were well down with only five riders competing.
However those five riders - Brendon Mackay, Ryan Sedgmen, Aaron Summers, Arlo Bugeja and Tom Hedley - were very evenly matched and produced some thrilling racing. The final was the best race of the night, as it should be, with Bugeja, Summers and Hedley wheel-to-wheel throughout with Bugeja getting the win, Summers second, Hedley third and Mackay fourth.
The Sidecar and Quad sections were both decided over 12 heats and a final with Mick Headland/Paul Waters going through the card unbeaten and winning the Sidecar final comfortably ahead of Kane Irwin/Jeremy Sherwood, Ron Parker/Shane Rudloff and Dale Irwin/Brad Kirtland.
Ben Hall won the Quad final ahead of Darrel Knight, Bjorn Ludvigsen, Donna Newman and Nathan Watson.
One of the best races of the night was the Junior (under 16) final on the new infield track, which saw the lead change many times, including on the last corner, before Justin Sedgmen scored the win ahead of Robert Branford, Arthur Sissis and Robert Medson.
The next meeting is the Ivan Mauger Golden Helmet Series on November 18.

Ryan Recently fished 3rd in the NSW under 21 titles.
Here is the Meeting Press Realese

The Neapen Motor sports club hosted a very successful New South Wales under 21 title on a beautiful Sunny Sunday (October 1).
New South Wales best solo riders took on the the very best from Victoria and Queensland and it was the interstate riders that showed the home town riders how it was done.
Mildura’s reputation for producing great junior riders continued with 19 year old Cory Gathercole taken the crown for the very first time. He qualified on a 13 point score line after having a slight problem in one of his heats to win the final from another Victorian Tyron Proctor. The fight for third place was a hot won and when Victorian and Australian under 16 Champion Ryan Sedgmen and Queenslander Ricky Barny went over the finish line they were inseparable so it was a tie for third place.
Gathercole, Proctor and Barny qualified automatically qualified for the Final but there was a fight for the last spot in the final Sedgmen, James Holder and Korey Smith all got 11 points in the heats so there was run off to gain the last spot in the final.
In the first running of the run off Smith got the start to lead around the first turn only to have on the next corner Sedgmen sail around the outside of him. Sedgmen started pulling away only to have the race stopped when Smith fell off on the third lap causing Holder to lay it down for him. Smith was excluded. In the second re-run Sedgmen made a brilliant start and was never headed leaving Holder to eat his dust.
Sedgmen was the real surprise packet of the meeting considering it was only his 4th senior meeting Australian Junior Champion showed class in all of his rides and really gave the boys a scare in the final when he was lying in second but making a small mistake put him back to third with Barny.
All in all it was great day of racing on the re-surfaced Neapen race way and the best rider on the day won.

17/9/06
Ryan and Justin raced at the Mildura Junior Motorcycle Club Winter Series meeting. It was a very windy and wet day but we were able to get all of our racing in. Ryan was up first in the Seniors and he rode quiet well putting in some hot laps in with other riders in Cory Gathercole and Tyron Prctor.
Justin raced in the juniors and he rode well for the whole day winning all of his races and easily making the final. He made the start in the final and was never headed beating his now arch rival Dak North. All in all it was a great days racing.

17/9/06
Ryan recently rode at the adelaide show at the start of the month. It was a big buzz for Ryan considering it was a 520 metre long track and racing in front of a huge crowd on all 3 nights of racing. The track was a little rough for the riders and they had to ride quiet sensible during the events. It took Ryan a long time to get used to the track but once he did he rode quiet well. All in all it was a great three days of racing and a good experience for Ryan.

12/8/06
Ryan and Justin raced at the Mildura Junior Motorcycle Club winter series on the weekend. Justin rode very well in the juniors in the Jason Crump Shield meeting were he easily made the final only droping two points in the heats.
In the final Justin found it tough going from gate 3 and didnt quiet get to the corner first but he was able to go around the outside of Breton Barnfield and Dakota North in the first corner to lead down the back straight only to get a slight nudge from Brenton and Justin fell off. All four riders were put back in for the the re run which was quiet strange.
In the second running Dakota got the start and lead around the first corner with Justin and Brenton fighting for second spot Brenton gave Justin a nudge coming out of the corner because of a small rut that he hit and that forced Justin off the track and the race continued were Dakota come out in front from Brenton and Jack Fallon with Justin coming forth.
Ryan rode before the juniors and rode quiet well on a borrowed machine from Les Evans. The bike was a X Jason Crump machine so the bike was quiet fast and Ryan handled it very well putting in some quick times. Other Seniors on the day that were racing were Cory Gathercole, Tom Hedley and out of retirement Shane Hamilton and they were all going very quick. All in all it was a great day of racing.

13/7/06
Last Saturday Ryan and Justin raced at the Mildura Motorcycle Club Winter Series. Ryan rode extremly well in the seniors he rode extremly quick and had some great races aganist the likes of Cory Gathercole (who recently got back from england), Tyron Proctor, Jason Stewart and Jake Anderson. The only real problem that Ryan had all day was his primary chains are over heating to much after he has finished each race.
Justin rode his 350 quiet well during the day getting quicker and quicker in each race.
Justin also rode his Junior bike in the Leigh Adams Cup trophy meeting he again rode brilliantly easily making the final as the top point scorer. But again as in the Roy Thompson memorial Justin got pipped at the post by Dakota North. Dakota made an extremly good start from gate 4 and was never headed. Justin tryed as hard as he could trying to real Dakota in after he got boxed in at the first corner but he couldn't quiet real in Dakota and again he got pipped at the post. End Results Dakota North, Justin, Brenton Barnfield and Jackson Milne.

3/7/06
Ryan has aggreed to race at the Wayville Showgrounds in September as a side show to the Royal Adelaide Show. He will be racing aganist the best young talent in Australia with the likes of Korey Williams, Cory Gathercole and Tom Hedley riding.

3/7/06
Ryan and Justin recently raced at Gillman on the weekend and they had a succesful day of racing. Ryan rode his 500 and Justin rode his new 350. Ryan rode very well and really mixed it up with the likes of 19 year olds Tyron Proctor and Arlo Budjia. Ryan rode very quickly all day and his confidence grew in each race. In his last race Ryan was having a great battle with Tyron but his Primary chain came off which was a bit of a bummer as they were having a tight race. Justin rode well on his 350 considering it was his first time racing at the gillman curcuit. In each race he went out by himself because there were no other 350's on show.

27/6/06
Justin and the family made a succesful trip to the Central Coast to race at somersby. Justin had a very good meeting as the defending champion he had good speed all day and he made the final easily with a 14 point scoreline through the qualifing heats. He had second pick in the final and he choice the blue helmet colour. The other riders that qualified for the final were Dakota North, Brenton Barnfield and Matt Davies. Dakota made a brilliant start and was never headed Justin tryed everything but he was pipped at the post by half a bike lenght. The final results were Dakota North first from Justin, Brenton and Matt.

21/6/06
Justin and the family are off to Somersby on the Central Coast of New South Wales for the Roy Thompson Memorial meeting. The Roy Thompson Memorial is won of the biggest events in junior speedway. Justin is the defending Champion and he is looking to win the title again. Other riders to win the Roy Thompson are Chris Holder the regining Australian Under 21 champion in 2003, Ryan Sedgmen in 2004 and of course Justin won in 2005.

11/6/06
Ryan and Justin recently raced at Mildura on Staurday at the Club winter Series. Justin did very well in the juniors and won all four heats and the final easily. He won the final from Dakota North, Josh Munro and Brenton Barnfield. Ryan in the seniors rode pretty well after his crash last week he lost some of his confidence but coming home to Mildura and racing his confidence came back he was riding very well and fast and he had some good racers with well respected rider Jason Stewart they battled side by side in each race flat out. Jason though to his credit just had enough to beat Ryan in each race. Ryan lost each race at the start Jason was pretty quick out of the start but Ryan looked quicker during the race but Jason was holding a nice tight line on the inside.

7/6/06
Ryan recently rode at Gillman last Sunday he didn't have a very good start to the meeting were he crashed in the first heat. Ryan flipped the bike at the start and the bike landed on top of him. Ryan though was able to race the rest of the day and got seconds and thirds in the other heats. Ryan was quiet pleased but he had a very sore bum and shoulder at the end of it.

1/6/06
Ryan will be traveling to Gillman in Adelaide this weekend to ride his 500 in a normal race meeting that Gillman have put on. Also Sedgmen senior (Gavin) will be having a skid on his old 2 valve jawa aswell there could be a father versus son race on the cards!!!!!
