Ryan at a young age was always going to be a motorbike rider especially in speedway because of his Grandfather Phil who was a pretty handy rider in his day winning numerous State Titles and a Australian Long Track Title in 1967 and Ryan's father Gavin who also raced speedway.
Ryan started racing at the age of 5 racing Pee Wees and he has never looked back since. He made the step up into junior speedway at the age of 9. He raced junior speedway until he was 16 claiming some major honours on the way. Ryan won the Australian Junior Title in 2006 and with his younger brother Justin they combined to win the Australian Junior Pairs Titles in 2005 and 2006. Ryan recently steped up into the senior ranks and he is currently looking forward to his first full senior speedway season and by doing this he has become the third generation Sedgmen to do so.

Justin like Ryan became interested in speedway through his grandfather and his father. He also started racing Pee Wees at the age of 5 and he to has never looked back since. Justin started racing junior speedway at the age of 9 and he is still currently racing junior speedway. Justin at 14 has got to his name a fair few honours he combined with Ryan to win the Australian Junior Pairs Titles in 2005 and 2006 and he finished 2nd in the 2004 Victorian Title and he finished 2nd again in the South Australian Title in 2005.
